Committee

The BSPS Area 1A Committee is a small but dedicated team who work together to organise and run all of our area events. While each member has their own role, we pride ourselves on supporting one another and working collaboratively to ensure everything runs smoothly.

As well as the hard work, we also enjoy the social side, with our annual Christmas night out always being a particular highlight.

We are always happy to welcome new members, so if you would like to get involved, please don’t hesitate to contact Joanne for more information.

Joanne Pybus

Chairman of BSPS Area 1A

I have been involved with horses and showing all my life, having competed myself and now alongside my daughter, Ella. I am a BSPS and BSHA judge, as well as Vice Chairman of BSPS and Chairman of Judges.

I am passionate about showing at every level, from grassroots through to the top, and I am incredibly proud of BSPS Area 1A, the events we run, and the strong sense of community and enjoyment we share.

I am always available for a chat with existing, new and prospective members.

Ella Pybus

I’m Ella, and I’ve been a member of BSPS Area 1A since I first started showing. I compete my horses myself, and when I’m not in the ring, I love helping out at area shows.

Alongside my mum, Joanne, I’ve grown up heavily involved in the area, which has given me a real appreciation for everything that goes on behind the scenes. I now manage the social media and schedules for the area, as well as helping with the Young Committee.

It’s great to be part of such a supportive team, and I’m always happy to get involved wherever I can.

Tracey Dowson

My name is Tracey Dowson, and I’m the face you’ll always see at the secretary’s table — always happy to help and answer any questions.

I rode and competed as a child and have always had a real love for ridden showing. Over the years, that passion has stayed with me, and I now enjoy supporting and following my family in their various equestrian pursuits, both at home and out at shows.

I particularly enjoy encouraging younger riders and watching them grow in confidence and ability. It’s lovely to be part of such a supportive area, and I’m always happy to lend a hand wherever I can.

Kirsty Anne Kirby

I grew up on a farm and have been showing since my lead rein days, gaining so much from the BSPS over the years. As a new member of the Area 1A committee, I’m really looking forward to giving something back.

I have a strong interest in horse welfare and supporting others, and I always try to help wherever I can. I’m also excited to be involved in coordinating the Young Judges training this year.

Charlotte Miller

Hi, I’m Charlotte Miller. I’ve been part of BSPS Area 1A since I was 8 years old, which definitely feels like a long time ago now. I used to compete myself and have so many great memories from those days, but now it’s all about my two girls, Sophie and Frankie, and supporting them on their own journeys.

Being part of Area 1A has always meant a lot to me, and it’s lovely to now see it through their eyes as well. I really enjoy being involved and helping out where I can, and I love being part of an area that does so much for the children, creating such a friendly and supportive environment.

And of course, camp is always a highlight 😉

James Thompson

Horses first came into my life in 2000, when my grandparents bought a smallholding, and they’ve been a constant ever since. I began riding at a local riding school and eventually spent several years working there as a handyman.

Although I’ve never competed in the ring myself, I’ve always been involved in the preparation behind the scenes. These days, I’m the committee’s handyman — you’ll see me setting up rings and changing courses, but most often I’ll be stewarding in the ring.

Feel free to come and say hello!

Emily Geach

I’ve been lucky enough to be surrounded by horses all my life and developed a love for them from a very young age. Over the years, I’ve had the opportunity to home-produce a variety of types and breeds, gaining valuable experience and enjoying every step of the journey.

I really enjoy being involved in all aspects of showing, whether that’s competing in the ring or helping out behind the scenes at shows. Being part of such a supportive environment is something I truly value, and I’m always happy to lend a hand wherever I can.

Rachel Ford

I’ve had a love of horses all my life. From the age of 11, when I got my first pony, I attended local shows and loved going cross-country.

When my daughters, Erin and Grace, came along, we began competing at a higher level in both flat and WHP classes. We are a home-produced family and are passionate about all aspects of showing.

We really enjoy being part of Area 1A and taking part in all of the events that are organised.

Jennifer Cowan

My name is Jennifer Cowan, and I have been involved in showing since I was three years old, competing in both flat and working hunter classes. I have competed at HOYS, the Royal International, and London.

I now compete alongside my daughter, Molly, who is on the lead rein, and it’s something we both thoroughly enjoy. Alongside competing, I also break, school, and produce ponies for showing, which I am very passionate about.

Young Committee

The BSPS Area 1A Young Committee is all about bringing our younger members together to get involved, share ideas, and have fun! The group holds regular meetings and plays an active role in organising a variety of social events, both with ponies and without. It’s a great way to meet new friends and get involved in the area. We’re always keen to welcome new younger members, so if you’d like to join in, please pop Ella or Emily a message for more information!

Anna Teague

Hi, I’m Anna Teague, and I’m part of the Young Committee. I’ve been showing since I was three years old, and horses have always been a huge part of my life.

Being involved in BSPS Area 1A means a lot to me, and I really enjoy helping out and being part of everything that goes on throughout the year. My favourite event has to be camp, it’s always such a fun experience and a great chance to spend time with friends, learn new things, and make lots of memories.

I love all aspects of showing, both in and out of the ring, and I’m really proud to be part of such a friendly and supportive area.

Grace Phillips

Hi, I’m Grace. I’ve been around horses my whole life and have always competed in showing and working hunter, although jumping has always been my favourite.

I come from a home-produced family, and we tend to buy youngsters, as I really enjoy building that special bond with my ponies and watching them progress over the years. It’s something I find incredibly rewarding.

I’ve always been part of BSPS Area 1A, an area that gives so much to its young riders. It’s lovely to now be in a position where I can share my experiences and give something back. I love being involved and getting stuck into the shows and events throughout the year
